Station M 1948-2009
Station Mike has been collecting data on seawater temperature, salinity since 1948 and on oxygen concentration since the 1950s.
During 2009 metadata describing the data were collated and the data made available through these pages in OceanSITES format.
Below are graphs of the data after undertaking some further gross range checks.
EuroSITES funds have supported the development, testing and deployment of a sub-surface mooring equipped
with physical measurement sensors (temperature and conductivity) to 2000 m and oxygen optodes at 50 and 2000m.
In addition, a new winch was mounted on to Ocean Weather Station Mike to enable a new CTD system to be installed.
Further work was also undertaken at Station Mike to provide access to real-time data to EuroSITES.
Unfortunately the funding for the ship Polar Front was withdrawn in 2009 and Polar Front is no longer available as the Station Mike platform.
Moorings to replace some of the Station Mike functionality have been designed and these moorings are planned to be trialled as soon as possible at the Station Mike site.
