CIS July 2007

8th September 2008 The CIS mooring in the central Irminger Sea (east off Greenland) has been successfully redeployed by the team of the IFM-GEOMAR onboard the French research ship NO Thalassa. Luckily the full gale (Force 10 on the Beaufort scale) winds that hit Thalassa on Saturday and Sunday, and originated from a Greenland Tip Jet event, calmed down to a fresh breeze (Force 5). Despite the large swell the recovery took place in the morning of the 8.9.2008. This mooring has been in the water for 427 days. A few hours after recovery the new deployment took place, without problems, and even the sun came out for a few hours. The next recovery is scheduled in May 2009.
First real-time data messages from the SAMI-pCO2 sensor, the wetlabs Fluorometer and 12 MicroCats T/C/p recorder have been received in Kiel and soon will be implemented in the EuroSITES data repository.
This is the first deployment of an Aanderaa Optode oxygen sensor as part of the joint biogeochemical/physical sensor package and in addition it is the first implementation of this sensor in the real time data telemetry - a deliverable for EuroSITES.
Currently the readout of the data from the recovered instruments (13 Microcats - one instrument from 1400m depth was lost during recovery, 2 ADCP, 1 NAS nutrient analyzer, 1 SAMI pCO2 sensor, 1 wetlabs FLNTUSB fluorescence/turbidity sensor) is taking place place.

15th October 2007 The telemetry buoy came adrift shortly after 1500 utc of the 14th October and although it is still sending its position it is no longer sending data from the rest of the mooring.

9th July 2007 The mooring was successfully serviced by the research vessel Maria S Merian, and data from 12 microcats and the SAMI Carbon Dioxide Sendor are being regularly received via satellite.
